Introduction of Japan Acupuncture & Moxibustion Association
The Japan Acupuncture & Moxibustion Association was established in September 1950 as a national acupuncture and moxibustion panel, and the Japan Acupuncture & Moxibustion Association Establishment Meeting (organizational meeting) was held in the Upper House Hall on November 30 of the same year.
In the next year, on March 25, 1951, the “Nihon Harikyushi-kai Kaiho” (Japan Acupuncture & Moxibustion Association Newsletter) was first published, which was renamed to “Nihon Harikyu Shinpo” (Japan Acupuncture & Moxibustion Newsletter) in April 1953, and the association was approved as an incorporated association on May 10. A nationwide Japan Acupuncture and Moxibustion Treatment Conference was established in October, and the first academic conference was held in Keio University. (The conference was renamed to “Zen-nihon Harikyu Gakkai” (All Japan Acupuncture and Moxibustion Conference) in May 1981 and has been acting as a group that pursues only acupuncture and moxibustion theory and holds an annual academic meeting separately from the Association.)
The first academic workshop backed up by the Ministry of Health and Welfare was held in January 1952 and continues today. The association is working on the government to ease health insurance coverage and to realize a single legislation of acupuncture and moxibustion. Cooperating with acupuncture and moxibustion associations in 47 prefectures all over Japan, the Japan Acupuncture & Moxibustion Association works to improve the skills of members, to improve the status of acupuncturists, and to educate citizens about acupuncture and moxibustion medicine.
We are keenly aware that a lot of you acupuncturists need to work together cohesively and that we need your help for the development of acupuncture and moxibustion. We appreciate your warm support and hope that those who have not joined us will participate, and let us work together to accomplish our purpose!
The Purpose of the Association (Excerpt from the Articles)
The purpose of the Japan Acupuncture & Moxibustion Association is to contribute to the improvement of people’s health and welfare by promoting the acupuncture and moxibustion science, by improving the welfare of elderly people through acupuncture and moxibustion practices, and by doing business related to the improvement of public health.
